As a result of significant increases over recent years in the attendance at Stocksfield’s annual Remembrance Service, the Parish Council has arranged for a full road closure of the A695 between Stocksfield Sports Field car park and Stocksfield Railway Station car park on Sunday 10 November 2019. The closure, which has been kept to a minimum, will commence at 10.30am and will be removed by 11.30am. The Council regards the closure as necessary to ensure the safety of its residents who attend the Service.
A diversion route has been agreed with Northumberland County Council which will take westbound vehicular traffic from the A695 to travel south along New Ridley Road to Apperley Dene, then northwest on the B6309 and the unclassified road through Broomley, then north on the A68 to rejoin the A695 at Broomhaugh roundabout. The reverse will apply to eastbound traffic, although light vehicles will be able to use the B6309 to cross Bywell Bridge and then use the river road to Ovingham. The Council accepts that this will cause some inconvenience and apologises to all those who may be affected. The Council recognises that whilst the diversion route has capacity for larger goods vehicles, the route has limitations and wants to ensure that local businesses are aware of the planned closure. If at all possible, businesses are asked if they would consider the closure when timing the departure or arrival of heavy goods vehicles from or to their premises.
The Council asks that this information is disseminated to local businesses through the appropriate channels and , once again, apologises for any inconvenience.
