Couch to 5k is a 9 week NHS programme designed for absolute running beginners or those returning to running. Week 1 simply starts with a minute of running alternated by 90 seconds of walking! We have one led session every Sunday and then you will be given instructions of how many runs you should do during the week and what these should consist of. All you need to start is a good pair of trainers designed for running. These do not have to be expensive, but should be sports wear, not fashion trainers, which don’t have grip and may rub. You will also probably want to wear a sports bra (ladies). Although it is quite warm at the moment you may want to wear layers. You won’t be running long enough to dehydrate so water isn’t necessary but by all means bring a sports bottle if you would like to.
